Big Kids' Tonka

This bucket was on top of a pile created by dirt moved to allow workers to place beams under a historic building. The Odd Fellows building is scheduled to be moved a half a block away to make room for a new high rise condo block.

Beetle Mania

I love these cars. This one in particular is a fine example of the "Cabrio Beetle!"
I have owned a few of these beauties in the past (although none had the rag top) and would like to own another one someday.

The owner of this one obviously loves this car too.
Although If this were mine I would have lost the lady bug seat covers but who am I to judge the minor details on such a fine looking ride?

Back in the 801

Back home in Salt Lake today. It was a long drive. Covered a bunch of miles and road trip activities in three days.

All good road trips should leave mentally and physically drained or you did not push yourself nearly enough.
This trip more than achieved the minimum requirement for a great road trip.
But now I am home and sleep deprived so I will jump right back into the mix with this nice portrait on the side of an unused building near Beck Street in North Salt Lake.

I am off to take a nap. See you all tomorrow.

Report from the Road Trip

Real Salt Lake recorded their first road win of the season against Chivas USA in Carson, CA.

That is the first half of the reason for the Road Trip to Los Angeles.

The other half is a 2010 World Cup Qualifier on Sunday, between the US National Team and The Barbados National Team.

Ahhh! Gas Money.

Saw this sign and the first thing that I thought of was it would be a good way to get money for gas.
I don't drive but it would be good for others to afford their car habits.

A local news outlet must have had the same notion. This morning on some "feel good" news/variety show that is far too perky, too early in the morning had a segment about the sharp decline in blood and plasma "donations", claiming that high gas prices were making people opt for cash for blood and plasma.

Pony Up

Walking along the Pony Express Trail this past Sunday afternoon.
This route, in East Emigration Canyon, just east of Salt Lake City was the route the post traveled on horseback to reach Salt Lake City from points east. Obviously in the days before the telegraph and the Postmans Jeep.
This route also happens to be called Pioneer Trail and is the trail that was traveled by Mormon Settlers when they emigrated to the Salt Lake Valley from Missouri in 1847.
Finally if a trail could have an identity crisis steeped in American West history this trail might be that trail. In addition to the Pony Express and Mormon Pioneer Trail this was also the route those seeking their fortune traveled to reach California around 1849 and during the subsequent California Gold Rush. Aptly dubbed the California Trail.
Now it is a hiking trail and the last resting place of my kodak digicam, that saw its last seconds plunging, with the rest of me, into the swollen creek. The last photo marks the spot where I took the plunge.

My gps and phone barely survived, but only the memory card survived in the camera.

A Dinosaur in the Information Age!

Does anybody still use these? Seriously?

Looking at the condition of this phone and most other public phones, one has to wonder how the germaphobe in all of us was able to touch these things... Not to mention putting one near our mouth and ear!

No matter how many credit card readers and vid screens you attach to it, it is still a dinosaur that has seen better days far behind it.

Don't Jump!

It is the wedding season... And in Salt Lake City that is a big, big deal!

This bride was having her photos done.
While walking by a man from across the street yelled for her not to jump!
Which I found rather amusing!

Enjoy.
